a very interesting shouting match between Sharpton and West. Sharpton is the man of history who carries and reacts to this burden of history of race in America. He uses the language of the civil rights movement and the term equality (for everyone) and prejudice- it is in fact a "safe" language. West is the man of philosophy and interestingly realism as well- Interestingly as well in this exchange it perhaps outs Sharpton as being used by the system. Is there some competitiveness with regards as to who will speak for the so called black community, perhaps. But West sustains the stronger argument. The tradition of the black american pulpit orator is such that both men are very talented- but in this case there is a painful substantive argument that is breached by West that puts Sharptons rhetorical tactics into question. This is tough and can be hard to parse especially if one is not familiar with the history or the details of what is happening in usa today. I am thankful for this youtube clip.
