years ago I tried to get a graphic designer to create a diagram of the internet (for a rather comprehensive exhibition we were creating for the NYPL) he fought me tooth-and-nail and did not want to even take the time to create such a think. Me coming from a formal education which taught us to scoff at such seeming impossibilities. I am fascinated by information graphics- but am NOT a graphic designer. I adore all types of maps (though I am not a fan of graphs- most of which are done very badly)
So today(tonight) after having pulled an all nighter/all weekender for a (ironically enough) graphic design poster job possibility- I have been websurfing and decided to pursue this personal interest.
It seems to perhaps begin in 1969 with THESE (http://som.csudh.edu/cis/lpress/history/arpamaps/) series of diagrams of inter-networked academic institutions.
