I saw this foto on Facebook today and I was surprised at how many people were uncritical about it. Including friends.
Some research to make my own reaction led me to http://black-face.com/ whichseems to have covered the issue and promotes NOT putting it under the carpet.
From the Dutch/Netherlands point of view is an interesting set of thoughts from a blog https://colonialinscriptions.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/zwarte-piet-blackface-minstrelsy-and-remembering-dutch-colonialism/
I wasnt able to post a comment on the Facebook post but sent these 2 links and my thoughts to the one person I knew on the list.
A smart comment link left on the blog above from a FreeLance journalist was http://philipebels.com/?p=521
NPR had a 17minute audio (pop-up) on the topic HERE
