STUFF FOR HAITI

It occurs to me  that there are a list of BASIC items that could benefit a small island nation such as haiti tremendously towards some level of independence through the ability to "nourish" its citizenry with a variety of foods that function in a special way (though originally developed in other cultures. Such as SUPERFOODS like Tofu in Asia and some wisdom from Native American cultures.

In my opinion taking haitians on a course out of the consumerism paths would be a healthy progressive step.
Such as the agricultural cultivation of such items as bio- soaps and quickly growing construction materials such as bamboos. The cautionary caveat for these thoughts are the neccessary considerations that must also be taken with regards to bio mishaps when introducing foreign plants and organism to an island.
Fundementally it would be prudent to search and find similar sources on that island or int he caribbean first.
"Superfood is an unscientific marketing term used in various contexts. For example, it is sometimes used to describe food with high nutrient or phytochemical content that may confer health benefits, with few properties considered to be negative, such as being high in saturated fats or artificial ingredients, food additives or contaminants. An often-cited example of a superfruit is blueberries which contain moderate-rich concentrations of anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese, and dietary fiber, pterostilbene (an undefined phytochemical under preliminary research) and low calorie content. Other examples of superfoods include broccoli, spinach, pumpkin and tomatoes which are rich in various nutrients. All these fruits and vegetables contain a variety of nutrients and phytochemicals in varying amounts as do common plant foods like bananas, pineapples and potatoes which have only rarely been called superfoods. Fish may be considered a superfood due to their omega-3 fatty acids which may promote cognitive development. The term is not in common use by dietitians and nutrition scientists, many of whom dispute that particular foodstuffs have the health benefits often claimed by advocates of particular superfoods.[3] There is no legal definition of the term and it has been alleged that this has led to it being misleadingly used as a marketing tool."

The term superfood is often misused, with one expert saying it can be harmful when applied to foods which have drawbacks. For example, some seaweeds hailed as superfoods contain natural toxins which are thought by some to increase risk of cancer and liver damage
Of course it is important to realize that there are mixed messages on superfoods- but the concept none the less has some truisms worth looking closely at. We have known this for a long time about garlic for example.

Fenugreek (Bockshornklee in German)(known as methi in Urdu, Hindi and Nepali,)

The plant has small round leaves is cultivated worldwide as a semi-arid crop and is a common ingredient in dishes from Pakistan and the Indian Subcontinent.
Cuisine--Fenugreek has three culinary uses: as an herb (dried or fresh leaves), as a spice (seeds), and as a vegetable (fresh leaves, sprouts, and microgreens).
Lactation--Fenugreek seeds are thought to be a galactagogue that is often used to increase milk supply in lactating women.
Medicinal--A June 2011 study at the Australian Centre for Integrative Clinical and Molecular Medicine found that men aged 25 to 52 who took a fenugreek extract twice daily for six weeks scored 25% higher on tests gauging libido levels than those who took a placebo.
