(In the CABAÑAS. My Art-assistant)
UPDATE FRI 6 MARCH 2009:
FINALLY got to see what the whole thing looks like in 1 piece!(at the tulips)
UPDATE :3March
I am forgetting someones birthday but I cant remember who.
I I went to sleep at 9:30am this morning after working through the night. I woke up at 1pm and got up at 2pm. I finally started putting the background colors onto the the panels. This begins to make a strong visual shift. But shit I am so late.
Daniel tells me he is ill with a cold or flu and would not have been able to shoot it today anyway. so I have to pray he gets better or fina plan B very quickly. Perhaps the Tulips.
UPDATE: 3March-
I am freaked when i look at the calendar. I am STILL not completed and must change my working strategy.
I am betting on Daniel helping me shoot the image in the next day or so and I am concerned we will encounter unexpected difficulties. There are some very nice possibilities with lighting that the work offers with light and projections. But we will need a very elegant straight forward image.
UPDATE 1.March: Day after Reini had me over for dinner (to see Frank and chat with regina about Havana-I drank much too much red wine and suffered this morning for it. I have now placed the Annan quotation using a Fraktur to trace.
UPDATE 26 Feb:
Damn this is moving along slowly-I could scream from the stress. Today I wnet to buy about 50euros of supplies at Modulor and forgot to bring my wallet. Ugh!
UPDATE 22 feb
Finally was able to make a shift forward this weekend- SHIT! its amazing how mental you can get when fear of failure grips you. Granted I had more distractions.
Friday I had made a commitment to do a gallery speech (my first) for an artist friend Paula R here in a community space in Kreuzberg. Saturday I did some materials shopping over at Modular ($$) and then biked over to NGBK where the Whiteness conference was in full gear with a young scholar who had contacted me some time ago. Subject= Black artists working in Germany today (bingo!) She gave a great and clear talk (albeit a bit deadpan). I was able to meet a (very handsome Afro-deutsche named Phillip__? from Freiburg who i am told is doing artwork along some similar lines to me- I have of course mixed feelings about that- but we'll see)
On the altar piece element- I was able to frame out the circle and its structural elements- fortunately I was able to buy enough Selbstgeklebtvelour and some other selfsticking vinyl in the last days rather than actually painting all of this- which would have taken ages. Now I am also framing out (with a "natural" sponge I purchased thursday on Oranienstrasse) the actual portrait with sponged "layers" of transparent black acrylic and medium.
UPDATE 18 Feb.
Havent been able to move forward-partly my fault as well as distractions. Applied for Arbeitsstipedium 2009 from the Kunstsenat which took parts of the weekend and finally delivered on 17Feb in Mitte.
Spent the day today unpacking the Hasencamp crate with the large NH2K in it. The lightbox makers come in the morning and each duratrns must be removed from all 12 frames and repackaged in a carton "Mappe". This took unfortunately most of the day and I am happy I have got it done.
Thursday will also be filled but hopefully I will find time to paint the main Shrine element before heading over to see Paulas pieces for the opening speech I must deliver on Friday on her behalf.
TODAYS PROGRESS.
A CLEARED WORK WALL. MEASURED NAILS
