 DIRK (R.I.P.) has died recently (Feb2011).  Really cute and sweet young man I had a bit of a puppy-crush on when I first arrived in Berlin, he was a ginger-head then. We chatted and danced at SO36 together as we both explored that fun space of "cafe fatal" on Sundays. My only hesitation was his smoking habit which I find dreadful even with men I find attractive. PrincessHns reports on FB that Dirk was hiv poz and without insurance and like Manni he chose to avoid it, deny it the gravity of the situation until it was too late. In Germany (particularly if you are German or from the EU countries, such a death and lack of medications need not be the case). I had not seen him in a very very longtime- mostly because I had stopped going to SO36 (due to no real budget to do so) and Roses (where the air is physically intolerable due to the perpetual tobacco smoke permitted)- the two venues i had often seen him at.
