I think this small 32sqM apt in HongKong is brilliantly concieved to take advantage of every square centimeter to a full effect!
The Axonometric drawing doesnt make the full concept clear.the NewYorkTimes Magazine article is a tad clearer

Essentially: the small apt is in 3 zones with sliding wall/shelves/units that reveal and hide other elements like a desk or tub etc.
the front of the apt has the fixed sauna-shower/wc/sink etc. there is a murphy bed and the BR coverts into a kitchen.
the middle zone seems to be a working buro, books, CDs etc. with a guest bed tucked above the hidden tub.
This apt is in the spirit of the earlier small house posts- but there is a stronger stress towards "efficiency" here. One can imagine the many spaces (ie: Ile de St Louis, Paris) where this kind of mind-set is critically important to transform a pied-a-terre into a "real" functioning dwelling.

What the small flexible apt concept LACKS is the idiosyncratic textures and spontaneity one finds in this Hudson Gay couples country bungalow/house. This very human element is critical and not impossible to incorporate.
